The step-down configuration is a classic design that predates the Super Z style. Although it requires a bit more work to fit to the rod (as the male slide has an interior step with two different dimensions), it remains a preferred option for its low-profile finished look. This version features a significant reduction in length and weight, resulting in less disruption to the rod’s action and quicker damping at the end of the casting stroke. (Appropriate for two- or three-piece rod configurations.)
